Small lab Carbonization Furnace

The Lab Carbonization Furnace is a special equipment used to carbonize organic matter or precursors under controlled conditions (such as high temperature and inert atmosphere). It is widely used in the fields of materials science, chemistry, energy and environment to prepare activated carbon, carbon fiber, biochar, graphite materials, etc.

activated carbon lab furnace

⑴Main structure and composition

Laboratory carbonization furnaces are usually composed of the following core components:

Furnace body: made of high temperature resistant materials (such as ceramic fiber, stainless steel), can withstand high temperatures (usually 300–900°C).

Heating system: resistance wire, silicon carbon rod or graphite heating element, providing a uniform and stable heat source.

Temperature control system: PID program temperature control, supporting multi-stage heating curve setting.

Atmosphere control system: inert gas (N₂, Ar) or reaction gas (steam) is introduced.

Exhaust system: used to discharge volatile gases (such as tar, CO) generated during carbonization.

Safety device: over-temperature protection, pressure sensor, emergency stop switch, etc.

⑵Common types

Based on the heating method and application requirements, laboratory carbonization furnaces can be divided into:

Tube carbonization furnace: suitable for small batch samples, controllable atmosphere, often used in scientific research experiments.

Box carbonization furnace: large capacity, suitable for batch processing, but slightly lower uniformity.

Continuous carbonization furnace: used for pilot or pre-industrial experiments, can achieve continuous feeding.

⑶Application scenarios

Material preparation: synthesis of activated carbon, carbon nanotubes, graphene precursors, etc.

Biomass conversion: carbonization of agricultural waste (such as rice husks, sawdust) into biochar.

Energy materials: preparation of lithium/sodium ion battery negative electrode materials (such as hard carbon).

Scientific research experiments: study carbonization mechanism and optimize process parameters (temperature, heating rate, atmosphere).
